Who are we?
This website was originally created in the spring of 2000 by a group of UCSB students as a class project for an advanced environmental planning class. In addition to the work of these six students, previous research was compiled by the rest of the class and former ES students. For a list of individuals who have contributed to this site, please click here.
What is the purpose of this site?
We wanted to construct a website that would educate people about sustainable indicators. These indicators represent the work of our current class and previous classes. The indicators will generally represent information from Santa Barbara, the South Coast and beyond. Eventually the indicators on this site will cover a broad geographic base from California to the whole United States
What are the goals of this site?
  • educate viewers about what an indicator is and why they are important
  • be used as a tool in sustainable development
  • provide citizens with information about their community
  • provide an example to other universities to take part in their communities
