Carpooling in Santa Barbara County

What is the Measurement?

An estimate of the percentage of individuals who commute by means of carpooling (as defined by either two, three, or four persons per vehicle) in Santa Barbara County on a day to day basis. Findings were based solely on respondents who had replied to a survey created and distributed by Traffic Solutions, a non-profit organization designed to promote carpooling within Santa Barbara County.

Why is it Important?

It is directly related to the county's traffic flow, highway and parking expansion, and most importantly, pollution levels. With increased carpooling activity comes a significant reduction in air and noise pollution, traffic congestion, and overall stress factors involved in the commute.
